My first three classes were with Daniel and Asa. (That "A" should have a ° on top but I can't work out how to type it). Their interpretation of Slow Dance consists of bluesy moves used in Lindy Hop. For example, we learnt some hip wiggles that can be used in place of the rock-step of a swing out; some bluesy footwork in closed position; how to double and halve the tempo, both for footwork in closed position and also for a tuck turn, and how to use it for dynamic contrast; how and when to hold still; big counterbalance when rock-stepping in open position; double turn and catch with chest connection (a bit like rag doll); some things to do with your free hand; the importance of dancing with your whole body; and we practiced boogie-ing up to our partners (I have no idea how to conjugate the verb "to boogie"). I have never wanted to draw a sharp line between Lindy Hop and Blues, so their approach was quite consistent with my prejudices. Passport control visited twice. For the first visit, the couple were dressed as a geisha girl and a sumo wrestler. The sumo wrestler costume was inflatable. For the second visit they were dressed as witches. I have never seen a drag witch before. What a sheltered life I lead.
